iCal weblog retired
This is the final retirement notice for the iCal weblog. As the initial iCal hype is over and there are several other sites reporting on iCal, I am not going to post here any longer. The existing pages are going to remain in this location, so you should not be getting dead links. I am not really using iCal a lot, actually I bought a paper calendar for 2003 again (after a couple of Palm years). Thanks for all the traffic you sent this way, olePS: Here are some statistics.

How to move your iCal files to another folder and maybe let several people write to one calendar
iCal really wants to keep the iCal files in ~/Library/Calendars/. If you try to replace an individual calendar with an alias or a symbolic link, it will read the calendar alright, but overwrite the alias/link when saving. A solution to this is to create a symbolic link to the Calendars folder! Do as follows (at your own risk, don't blame me if you miss the date of the century):- Quit iCal - open Terminal.app (located in Applications/Utilities/) - type 'cp -r ~/Library/Calendars/ ~/Library/CalendarsBackup/' and press return (this creates a copy of your iCal files) - type 'rm -fr ~/Library/Calendars/' and press return (this deletes your original iCal files) - type 'cp -r ~/Library/CalendarsBackup /Users/Shared/Calendars/' and press return (replace '/Users/Shared/Calendars/' with the folder you want to...

How to view your iCal calendar from OS9 (stupid pet trick)
Here is my problem: I have a software that is certified not to work under OSX. I have to reboot in OS9.In order to be able to least check my calendar, I am publishing it to iCalX (or MyiCal), this way I can take a peek at it in my browser when someone calls asking for my time. I can't enter anything this way, but it is a suitable solution for my needs :-)

Calendar Fusion
Jish writes:I just "found" an interesting app, Calendar Fusion:I backed up my calendars and then fused my four calendars (Personal, Business, Birthdays, and Holidays) into one using the simple interface. The output is that you have a single calendar with all of your original items ... they are not colour-coded for their original calendars (which I had hoped for), but use the colouring for the new "Fused" calendar. You can choose to hide this calenday from view in iCal, but may wish to use it for publication for friends and families.
And Ricardo Lamego from Portugal also writes:I've just launched 3 iCal related websites that I believe will interest you. All three will be free access, non-profit and also a gift to the Mac community. You can read a quick project sinopse at the websites. iCallogs.com iCalstories.com iCalit.com When I checked, there was no content on the sites.....yet ?!?

Performance issues with iCal subscriptions
Stuck iCal calendar updates can impact CPU usage I leave iCal running all the time, so I expand its window from my dock and it appears to be updating my subscriptions. Well, almost everyday it gets stuck updating one of my calendars (seemingly a different one every time). I have a total of 16 calendars with 12 "Daily" subscriptions. [Mac OS X Hints]

Merge two calendars into one
This is a trick to merge calendars in iCal. Pick a calendar from the list in iCal, then export it to the desktop. Now drag the exported calendar file back into iCal, dropping it on the calendar name you want to merge it with. Now both calendars have merged into the latter. You can delete the exported file from the desktop when done. [Mac OS X Hints]
